Volley Ball Plus Six
Volleyball was a little slow starting off, in fact it’s over 100 years old, but it has grown like wildfire in the past several decades and is considered one of the better spectator sports worldwide. It requires six members on each team, some sand, an indoor arena or better yet your backyard.
For those going to the Summer Olympics 2008 in Beijing, don’t miss the volley ball competitions starting August 9th and running thru August 23 rd. You have your choice of beach volleyball or indoor valley ball or both.
It will blow your mind when you see the talent and physical fitness that these teams display. They dive, slide, jump and literally do anything to prevent the other team from scoring a point or grounding a ball as it’s called.
Don’t believe any old wives tales, it’s not a sissy sport – it takes tremendous athletic ability and mental concentration along with teamwork. Get online and see the upcoming events in preparation for the Olympics. There’s some awesome teams playing this year and our American teams will have their hands full.
The NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) estimates way over 300,000 volley ball athletes will be competing this year; this includes men and women. Some colleges offer volleyball scholarships, which should encourage youngsters to learn more about the game.
Canada got volleyball fever in the early 1900’s followed by Asia, China, Europe, Russia and Brazil. It’s a worldwide sport that shows extensive growth every year. There are estimates world-wide that about 1 out of every 6 people play volleyball, either at home, on a professional team or a school team.
If you hate regimented exercise programs and schedules, why not consider giving yourself a break. Join a local team – it’s a great place to make new friends while exercising all parts of the body. You’ll find body parts that you never knew you owned before, after a couple of days of intense volleyball – just suck it up and continue, because the heart, lungs and mind are having a holiday.
